About Us

Moto Girl Tours started when a story my aunt told me collided with a family crisis.
My aunt lives near the Thailand border and visits Thailand frequently. She saw young women who were working as "moto taxi" drivers — transporting people using their motor scooters. After graduating from university with a degree in accounting, I was working at an accountant firm. From a young age, my parents put a great value on education for myself and my two younger brothers and sister. But suddenly my father became ill and my mother needed help running our small family grocery store. So, I resigned my job and went home to help my mom.
But with three siblings in school, finances were tight. I realized I needed my own source of income and so with no small degree of help I started MotoGirl Tours. My accounting background was helpful in setting up contacts in the local business community and soon demand for our friendly and unique tours grew.
I realized that MotoGirl Tours could be a vehicle for other young women in Phnom Penh, a way to help them with their finances while they pursued a university degree and as a means of support as they enter post-baccalaureate life. Women in Cambodia still face discrimination when seeking a job. We study and earn the same degrees, but typically our salary and job prospects are not on par with our male classmates.
But despite that obstacle, I realized we have an edge. First, we have the freedom to work in the local "gig" economy. Secondly, our English language skills tend to be much better than the boys! And importantly, women are less reckless and more gentle drivers compared to young men. Finally, women are more friendly, and are very interested in speaking with people from all over the world and sharing Cambodian culture and history.
Since our start in 2015, we have grown to a company with a team of friendly, capable, independent minded and enthusiastic young women. We all thoroughly enjoy our job – highlighting the amazing culture and history of this our capital city. Going forward, we hope to continue to develop a "social company" where we can introduce the world to this "new time" for Cambodia. And we are ready for it!
