Do you accept US dollars as payment for your tours?
Yes. All tours are listed in US dollars and we always accept US dollars for the convenience and security of our clients.
Why are US dollars more secure?
While you may elect to use an ATM to withdraw Cambodian Riel, doing so can leave you with quite a pocket full of cash!
And while the local currency is the only currency used for amounts under $1.00, we suggest for your convenience and security that you use US dollars in all your transactions and check the change you receive carefully.
What is the local currency in Cambodia?
The local currency is the Cambodian Riel.
However, you may be surprised to know that the US dollar is widely used in Phnom Penh and other urban areas throughout the country.
Why? There are many historical and cultural reasons but it may be said that locally the hard currency is truly in every day use.
A bit of warning: counterfeit US dollars (usually a $100 or $50 bill) are not unknown. Further, any $100 or $50 bill which is not in MINT condition will likely be rejected by any merchant!
There is no point bringing old or tattered US dollars to Cambodia because such bills are practically useless. Even the banks won't accept them. Be sure to bring new bills and do not accept old or tatter bills (as change) at local markets!
Everyone in Cambodia expects the recipient of any cash to examine it and reject cash which is not in very good condition. So it would be a good idea to do likewise when shopping at any local merchant.
How can I book a longer custom tour?
Ok, for example, if you would like to book a Local Market tour (which has a duration of 1 hour), but you would like to extend that tour to 2 hours, then simply book the tour twice for the same day, with the scheduled times back to back. So, you could book one 9:00 am Local Market tour then book a 10:00 am Local Market tour.
Please note that all Custom Tours are a minimum of 2 hours, so typically we see bookings for the Local Market tour paired with a tour of the Royal Palace or Wat Phnom, etc.
Where is the pick up and drop off location?
All guests are picked up at their hotel or a hotel which is closest to where they are staying.
For those staying outside of Phnom Penh, we can recommend a hotel in the city where we can pick you up.
Please note that we do not pickup at residences or locations outside of the city.
Why are all MotoGirl drivers female?
One reason is to provide more job opportunities for Cambodian women. But even more importantly, as customer safety is our strongest concern, we hire young women drivers for their safe and gentle driving habits.
Why take a motobike tour?
Taking a motobike is the most efficient way of getting around the city. In traffic jams, you will see the motobikes moving forward while all the other traffic is stuck! Also, it is more exciting to have a wide open view (compared to the view from a bus or other tour vehicle).
Is it safe to ride a motorbike in Phnom Penh?
Driving motorbike in Phnom Penh is not as dangerous as it may look. The driving speed in the city averages only 12-20 mph (20-30 kmh). Moreover, safety is our first and most important focus. Only guides with excellent driving records and ability can become a MotoGirl.
What kind of motorbikes are used for tours?
All of our motorbikes are comfortable late model scooters. The engines are rated at 100-125cc.
What are the rules and guidelines while going on a tour?
All guests must wear helmet while riding on a motorbike.
No guest is not allowed to hold the driver. Please hold the seat handle of motorbike.
Please wear comfortable clothes. We recommend that women should not wear skirts or dresses.
Please leave your valuables (necklaces, large earrings, etc) at your hotel.
Please do not use your camera while riding on the motorbike. If you wish to take a photo, simply tell your guide and she will be happy to pull over.
If you are fair skinned, you should have adequate sun screen protection before you leave the hotel.
How far ahead of time do I need to book a tour?
All tours must be booked 36 hours prior to the start of the tour. While we try to be as flexible as possible regarding tour dates and times, doing so is one of our biggest challenges.
Unlike other tour companies which load a group of tourists into a bus with one guide, our tours are one-to-one. So a lot of preparation needs to go into each tour that we offer.
Thank you in advance for your kind cooperation.
What is MotoGirl Tours?
MotoGirl Tours is a company founded in Phnom Penh 2015. It is a local family business operating two wheel motobike tour services with female drivers. Please see our About Us page for more about our mission and how we got started.
How long does it take for each tour?
Each tour has it's own schedule. For example, the Day City Tour takes 3 hours.
A Custom Tour has a more flexible schedule and can be booked from a minimum of 2 hours and up to a maximum of 8 hours.
What happens if it rains before or during the tour?
If it rains heavily before the start of the tour, we will delay the start time.
In that case, we will call your hotel to inform you of the delay.
If we are unable to contact you, we request that you contact us as soon as possible.
If the forecast is for heavy rain throughout the day, then we will contact you to reschedule or cancel your tour.
In the case of light rain or passing showers, if we feel that the road conditions are safe, then we will continue the tour as planned. We provide all of our guests with a free high quality rain poncho.
If it rains heavily during the tour and we have to cancel then we will try to reschedule the tour.
If it is not possible to reschedule, you will be issued a partial refund. Please see our Terms and Conditions page for more details.
I would like to book more than one tour and I will be staying in two different hotels. How can I book that?
Each reservation is linked to a single pickup point. So please make a reservation based on the hotel where you wish to be picked up.
For example, if you are staying at the Boutique Hotel for 2 nights, then please book any tours you would like to book for those two day in one reservation (separate reservations are also allowable).
If you will be at the Central Hotel later on, then please make a separate reservation for pickup at that hotel.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Is there a discount price for children? How about kids under 6?
Children between 6 and 9 years old pay a lower rate than those 10 and over. It is assumed that any child in this age group is big enough to ride on a motobike with a guide.
Children under 6 may participate in a tour if there is a parent or guardian who is willing to take responsibility for the child during the tour. This includes holding the child while on the motobike. Please contact Customer Service regarding bringing a child under 6 years old.
