Our Story, our beginning.

“Moto Girl Tours started when a story my aunt told me collided with a family crisis”

My aunt lives near the Thailand border and often travels across for work. On one of her visits, she noticed something that sparked an idea—young women working as moto taxi drivers, transporting passengers on scooters. It was unconventional, but inspiring.

After graduating with a degree in accounting, I began working at an accounting firm. Education had always been a top priority in my family. My parents worked hard to ensure that I, along with my two younger brothers and sister, could pursue our studies. But everything changed when my father suddenly became ill. My mother needed help running our small family grocery store, and I made the difficult decision to leave my job and return home to support her.

With three siblings still in school, our finances were stretched thin. I knew I needed to find a way to earn an income of my own. Drawing inspiration from my aunt’s story and with a little help and encouragement, I launched MotoGirl Tours.

My accounting background helped me build connections within the local business community, and soon, our friendly and unique scooter tours began attracting attention. But I realized MotoGirl Tours could be more than just a business. It could be a platform for empowering other young women in Phnom Penh—a way to help them earn income while pursuing their education, and to support them as they enter life after university.

In Cambodia, women still face many barriers when entering the workforce. We study just as hard and graduate with the same degrees as our male classmates, but often our salaries and job opportunities fall short. Even so, I recognized that we have certain advantages.

For one, we have the freedom to work in the growing gig economy. Our English skills are often stronger than those of our male peers. We’re more cautious and gentle on the roads—an important quality for navigating busy city streets. And perhaps most importantly, we’re genuinely friendly and eager to share our culture with visitors from around the world.

Since launching in 2015, MotoGirl Tours has grown into a team of capable, independent, and enthusiastic young women who love what we do—introducing travelers to the rich culture and history of Phnom Penh. As we move forward, we’re committed to growing MotoGirl Tours as a social enterprise that reflects a new chapter for Cambodia—one led by strong, passionate women. And we are ready for it.
