The Royal Palace
The Royal Palace is the current dwelling place of the King of Cambodia. Located in central Phnom Penh along the banks of the Tonle Sap river, the 150 year old palace is a postcard of modern ornate Khmer style and beauty.
The grand Throne Hall at the center of the Royal Palace is the coronation site for Khmer kings and the largest gilded cathedral in Cambodia. There are many royal busts and the gilded umbrella used to shade the king when in procession.
The hall is topped by a 59 meter high tower inspired by the Bayon at Angkor Wat. The Throne Hall is used for coronations and ceremonies such as the presentation of credentials by diplomats.
An exhibition hall houses the many gifts given to the monarchy. The balcony of the exhibition hall is the best bird’s-eye view of the gilded temples. The facade of the neighboring Royal Residence is ornate but unfortunately not accessible to visitors.
The Silver Pagoda with it’s 5,000 blocks of silver houses a 17th-century Buddha made of Baccarat crystal, and another made almost entirely of gold and decorated with approximately 10,000 diamonds. There is a splendid mural of Cambodia’s history and mythology in the courtyard.
Visitors to the Palace must wear clothing that covers their knee, and T-shirts or blouse that reaches their elbow. If you wish, there are sarongs for sale at the front of the Palace (not included in the price of the tour).

When to come?
Anytime is a good time to visit Cambodia but most people prefer to visit during the dry season, from November to April, with the “cool season” of November to February being particularly pleasant. However, prices tend to be higher around this busy period.
What to bring?
Pack lightweight, breathable clothing, comfortable shoes, Insect repellent and sunscreen. For day tours it is a good idea to wear light clothes that cover your skin, they will keep you cool and protect you from the sun.
