Wat Phnom
Wat Phnom is fronted by a grand staircase which is guarded by intricate lions and the mythical “naga” serpent. The temple is a place to pray for good luck and is popular around exam time with the city’s students.
There are statues, shrines and alters with their accompanying guardian spirits. Drawings, relief carvings, and intricate murals (inside the shrine) lend to the aura of the majestic temple. Stories of the Buddha’s earlier reincarnations before his enlightenment are among the many scenes depicted in the murals..
There is a central altar with a large bronze seated Buddha surrounded by other statues and ornaments of worship. It is here that you are welcome to place the Lotus flower. Or keep it and watch the beautiful blossom open over the next few days.
The Travel Channel featured Wat Phnom as one of its “1,000 Places to See Before You Die”.
The verdant garden around Wat Phnom offers a wonderful and cool respite from the noise and chaos of the busy streets. Not unlike a jungle walk, this green space in the city’s center is home to a small population of monkeys, but we advise keeping your distance..

When to come?
Anytime is a good time to visit Cambodia but most people prefer to visit during the dry season, from November to April, with the “cool season” of November to February being particularly pleasant. However, prices tend to be higher around this busy period.
What to bring?
Pack lightweight, breathable clothing, comfortable shoes, Insect repellent and sunscreen. For day tours it is a good idea to wear light clothes that cover your skin, they will keep you cool and protect you from the sun.
